Artist Insights:
This piece was the start of my clarity as an artist. Being a brown skinned girl, a bit darker than the color of a paper bag (if you know, you know), I was raised to believe that no matter what I did I would never be desirable enough. The best I could hope to do was be useful. As an adult woman I was frustrated with my view of myself as less than. This piece was me taking pieces of paper that the world said were disposable, much like how I felt in the eyes of society and reclaiming them and myself as inherently worthy.
I hope this piece will allow you to reconnect with all the parts of your self and connect to a deep knowing that you are worthy and you and only you have the power to grant yourself acceptance and approval.
