BEHIND THE SCENES
Peek into my Sketchbook : Planning a Collection
After creating "Self Acceptance," I immediately knew that I wanted this piece to be apart of a collection. The shape of the original piece was inspired by the shape of one of the many rocks I collect when I go on walks. I often spend time overlapping the rocks into temporary sculptures to play with what is possible with the shapes provided by nature.
Since the original piece in the collection was made from recycled cardboard rather than stone it ended up having the appearance of almost tree bark, which I loved. As I daydreamed about the collection, I knew that I wanted there to be overlapping pieces that looked almost like bark pulled from a tree revealing emotions that I wanted the viewer to immediately feel.
Now that I had the idea the next step was figuring out which emotions, I would want to embody myself and transfer into these art pieces to be felt by others. A big aspect of my work is developing coping mechanisms for healing many of the feelings of unworthiness I grapple with daily. With this in mind I decided the next pieces would embody releasing negativity and embracing my wounded inner child. Here are the initial sketches I created.

I look forward to completing these pieces on recycled cardboard to complete the collection and they will be shown in my online gallery once complete. If you would like to be notified when I provide updates on this projects and others please join my e-mail list.
Thank you for taking this deep dive into my process and I wish you happy creating. - MNT 3-17-2023
